Lying In The Gutters – 22nd March 2010
Welcome To Lying The Gutters, the weekly runaround the best and the rest of Bleeding Cool. So, what's been going on?
Top Ten Stories Of The Week:
1. Google Street View Discovers Secret Wars In A Pub
A quick runaround the Shetland Islands, hundreds of miles off the North West coast of Scotland round this remarkable scene. Turns out it was a stag do/birthday party that took place a couple of weekends ago. And now will be the public face of Pierhead Restaurant And Pub for a decade to come, probably.
2. Ripping The Deadpool Cover Off A Siege #3
Apparently the retailer in question has received love and hate mail for this one, first tearing his covers off Blackest Night ring comics to get his Deadpool Siege #3 variant cover – then ripping the cover off that.
3. Shots From The Green Lantern Movie Set – They Got The Ring!
Ryan Reynolds, on set, with a ring a few pixels long. But you loved those few, few pixels!
4. Did Hercules Celebrate The Art Of Greek Love?
Positive proof, if proof were needed, that Hercules got jiggy with Northstar. And further proof that funerals in the Marvel Universe are very strange affairs indeed – more an episode of Funeral Hearse Confessions.
5. Warners Announce A Supermovie Every Summer
And they'll all be in 3D!
Marvel name their HOH series. And, yes it's just what we thought. And there's Hulkpool.
7. Tim Seeley Hacks And Slashes Devil's Due Debt
Tim Seeley not only moves his comic, but does so in a way that will pay back the comic creators that Devil's Due stiffed.
Talking of which, Rachelle Rosenberg gets a court case upheld against Devil's Due.
9. The Man Who Sold Zenith Trade Paperbacks
Zenith trade paperback that should have been destroyed, leaking out of a car boot sale in Essex? What's really going on here?
10. Guardians Of The Globe – Chase Variant?
And, just as Image start to reveal the real members of their new superteam, my own Image co-creation gets a little annoyed.
Bubbling Under:
The accidental swiping of 2000AD fan art… by 2000AD, the war against comics piracy takes a new turn, Finding out about new NBC show Team Comicana, the team, and talking to them in the rain, a new comics sales record to be broken this week, the new TV show from Grant Morrison, Stephen Fry and Paul McGuigan gets named, the beta launch of Longbox, Tokyo bringing in new comics content legislation, Warners and Universal fighting over Google ad words and 2000AD books printing in the USA
Top Five Things You Might Have Missed
1. Shaky Kane's new comic for Image.
2. Casting for Captain America extras opens. And yes I'm sending in my own details.
3. A new graphic novel from Scottish stand up Frankie Boyle who might also be writing for Mark Millar's anthology.
4. The look of C2E2 on the street.
5. A blog with harsh words and allegations for the family of Frank Frazetta.
Top Five Things I Should Have Linked To But Didn't Because I Was Probably Writing About Kick-Ass.
1. The passing of Joe Sarno, organiser of the first Chicago Comic Con. I understand that C2E2 will be running a tribute.
2. Heidi Macdonald trying to get a decent hotel for San Diego and finding herself cockblocked by Al Gore.
3. Also I never linked to Rich Johnson joining The Beat and kicking off a new set of confusion between the pair of us. Which this link will probably only foster.
4. How a 1994 Batman cartoon predicted the plot of Bioshock.
5. A photographic look behind the scenes of the upcoming Grant Morrison documentary. Including Warren Ellis at home.
And that's it for this week. As ever I'm on richjohnston@gmail.com. And I have things to write…
