Oni Press Forced to Plan Own 20th Birthday Party at Rose City Comic Con

In the saddest thing to happen in comics since DC gave a glowing review to its own Man of Steel series, Oni Press is planning its own birthday party this year. The company is turning 20, and rather than let a friend or loved one throw them a party, Oni is doing it themselves during Rose City Comic Con in September.

According to the press release, Oni's birthday party is happening at the Mission Theater in Portland, September 7th, at 8 p.m. In addition to selling and/or giving out EXCLUSSIVE Oni merchandise, the party will feature catered food, a cash bar, a GIF photo booth, and "dancing with music by Portland's famed DJs, Strange Babes."

The press release contains more details:

Oni Press is turning 20! Join us, sponsors of Rose City Comic Con 2018, on September 7th at 8pm, at the Mission Theater (1624 NW Glisan St, Portland, OR 97209) to party down. There will be exclusive Oni Press merch available in addition to McMenamins catered food, a cash bar, and dancing with music by Portland's famed DJs, Strange Babes. Take photos at our GIF booth and meet and hang out with our creators, staff, friends, and family.

This event with Rose City Comic Con closes our year-long celebration. Last October we announced our transition to Simon & Schuster as our new book distributor, and this year donated to such charities as the True Colors Fund and the Hemophilia Foundation of Oregon. Additionally, we created a brand-new 20th anniversary logo that adorned all of our single issues. Along the way, we also welcomed our new Director of Sales, Margot Wood from Epic Reads, Marketing Design Manager, Sandy Tanaka, from Dark Horse, and Sarah Gaydos from IDW as our new Editorial Director of Licensed Publishing. Even Oni Press Founder and Chief Financial Officer, Joe Nozemack, can't believe it's been 20 years.

Said Nozemack:

The main reason I started Oni Press was because I felt that comic books were too focused specifically on one demographic. I wanted to create comics for everyone. It's very rewarding to see the audience for comics and graphic novels grow and become more diverse, and the library and book markets embrace it as an art form. I'd like to think we were a part of helping to make those changes a reality and I'm excited to see what we can do in the next 20 years.

And Publisher James Lucas Jones added:

I'm proud to be a part of Oni Press expanding as a company. We are like one big creative family, and we will continue to welcome new endeavors with every turn: from our readership, gamers, and entertainment. I can't wait to see what we do next!

With all those accomplishments, you'd think Oni would have had at least one friend to remember their birthday! It's clearly very lonely being Oni Press, so cheer them up by picking up tickets for Rose City Comic Con and attending the party on September 7th!

About Jude Terror

A prophecy once said that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero would come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events. Sadly, that prophecy was wrong. Oh, Jude Terror was right. For ten years. About everything. But nobody listened. And so, Jude Terror has moved on to a more important mission: turning Bleeding Cool into a pro wrestling dirt sheet!
