Two Trailers For Gimmicky Car Chase Film Vehicle 19 Put Paul Walker Behind The Wheel. Again

Thrillers that take place in one location for their entire duration can be exciting and claustrophobic. Rear Window is obviously the classic, where as more recently Buried gave it a fairly decent stab.

Often these films succeed by creating suspense out of the protagonist being stationary, unable to influence things past their restricted space. As such,  shooting a 'contained' thriller in a car seems like a horrible idea.

Of course, that hasn't stopped director Mukunda Michael Dewil trying.

Paul Walker stars in Vehicle 19 as a guy who just chose the wrong rental car. He pretty quickly finds a gun and a tied up girl. He then finds himself on the run against a corrupt police force, trying to prove his innocence – all the while never getting out of the car.

That all looks fairly discombobulated. The action seems a bit disjointed and was sometimes incomprehensible due to the lack of establishing shots, long shots, or enough sensible editing. You could argue that it's built like this in service of the 'always inside of the car' gimmick,* but it seems counter productive stay true to that concept at the expense of an audience's understanding of the action.

This is only the trailer though, which could just be horribly put together. I'll try and keep an open mind.

*A gimmick that saw this film's screenplay make the Black List a few years ago.
