AnalogyWatch: The mayor of Austion has just compared the city to Green Lantern.In his State of the City address he stated;

If New York is Superman; and Chicago is Batman; and Los Angeles is the Flash; then Austin is the Green Lantern.

We are a city without fear. We are a city that can create anything we can visualize, through sheer force of will. We are a city with a special charge to shine a light into the darkness and lead the way to a new and better day.

SpeculatorWatch: Not all comic books are worth millions it seems, at the New Bern Antique Show.

Kashiwa came from Jacksonville with vintage Batman comic books. She said her mother once worked in a printing shop in Chicago and the workers read them, and then tossed them in a corner. Her mother scooped them up and brought them home.

She had each one – with a 10 cent price imprinted on the covers – neatly packed in plastic.

Dawn Fitts of Greenville, one of the co-op owners of New Bern Antiques and Collectibles, noted that someone in the print shop had stamped each comic with a store stamp. They had also been apparently handled and read a lot, all of which diminished their value. Still, she said they might be worth $5 to $15 each to a Batman comics collector.

Kashiwa had hoped for more encouraging news.

"I am disappointed," she said. "I was hoping for something more, but I guess not."

Riverdale: The Archie movie trailer

A Vancouver film company has produced a spoof trailer for a feature-length film of the Archie comic book series. Riverdale, a convincing parody meant to comment on the trend of "gritty" remakes of popular franchises, portrays the darker side of the fictional high school in the comic books. The project was produced on a $3,500 budget and shot over two days at various Vancouver locations with the help of 100 volunteers from the film industry, who were all recruited on Craigslist.
