This list from The Comic Reader, June 1984, shows the top 100 comics in the same month DC announced its massive crossover, DC Universe: Crisis on Infinite Earths. (The little circles mark what I was buying at the time).

Marvel dominated, with X-Men at the top and five X-related titles in the top ten. New Teen Titans is DC's only title in the top ten. Most comics are 60 cents to 75 cents, though some reach to $1, $1.5 and even $2 for the imported Warrior Magazine featuring Marvelman and V For Vendetta. Which Dan DiDio chooses not to buy. Notice Dan buys all the top books but missed out Thor, Daredevil, Omega Men and The A-Team.

I pity the fool who didn't buy Warrior though.

By the way, 60 cents in 1984 is $1.43 today. So a $2.99 comic is twice the price of inflation.

A 75 cent comic in 1984 is $1.78 today. So a $3.99 is two and a half times the price of inflation.
