The Very Erotic Alan Moore
"Sexually progressive cultures gave us literature, philosophy, civilisation and the rest, while sexually restrictive cultures gave us the Dark Ages, and the Holocaust." – Alan Moore
October sees the publication of comics writer, novelist, performance artist and magician Alan Moore's, 25,000 Years Of Erotic History. It is a hardcover illustrated treatise of the history of pornography and erotica through many cultures, starting with the Venus of Willendorf, dated around 23,000 BC.
If the quote above sounds familiar, that's because this volume is an extended, uncut version of the piece Moore wrote for the sold-out Arthur magazine (with an extract at CBR), during the publication of Lost Girls, now with relevant illustration and photography. The piece explore several themes common in Moore's recent work such as Lost Girls and Black Dossier, over the power of erotica to free the person against a state that seeks to supress the individual, but that art values have been stripped from the form with each technological advance. It is likely to be a strong companion piece to Lost Girls, now available in a single hardcover volume.
25,000 Years Of Erotic Freedom will be published by Abrams Books in October and can be ordered in the UK and the USA now.
