Scribd Closes Digital Comics Line Because No One Read Them
Publisher's Weekly has confirmed the news that Scribd has closed its all-you-can-eat digital comics service.
One of the more attractive options for digital comics, Scribd launched their all-you-can-eat comics service in 2015, they offered over ten thousand comics from Marvel, Archie, Boom, Dynamite, IDW/Top Shelf, Top Cow, Valiant, Zenescope – although PW doesn't seem to think Marvel were part of the offering. They were though. Scribd told PW that,
"We launched comics in 2015, and while we were excited to bring new content to our readers, few actively took advantage of them. We will be focusing our efforts on enhancing the experience surrounding our other great content types including books, audiobooks, magazines, and documents."
Basically – no one read them. Not compared to their other offerings at least. This might be seen as good news for their rivals – ComiXology, Marvel Unlimited, and more… but it's not great news that Scribs subscribers really didn't want to read the comics that they were getting as part of the service…
