Speculator Corner: Hellmouth #1 Is Selling For Up To $100
Boom Studios is launching what they're calling the "first-ever Buffy and Angel comic book event" tomorrow with Hellmouth #1 and as we've seen with Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman's Absolute Carnage this year, event comics are big business – which is why we warned you about Hellmouth being an overlooked hit over a month ago.
We then warned you that the foil cover would be hard to get in the all-important-9.8-grade and subsequently saw sales jump a mind-blowing 300% at FOC, even though this Hellmouth #1 variant doesn't actually arrive in stores till October 30th.
And on the eve of NYCC, Comic Tom, one of the biggest influencers in the speculator community, named Hellmouth as a book to watch.
But even before the speculators officially made their intentions known, there's been enough heat on the book that it sold out weeks before tomorrow's debut.
Let's look at how it's selling on the secondary market right now:
Angel #5 is a Hellmouth prelude and the Nixey variant has sold copies for $20.
The connecting Matthews cover to Angel #5 is still under $10, but as fans pick up the more heavily ordered connecting variants on Hellmouth and Buffy, they'll soon realize this is the hardest one of all to find
The ultra-rare Angel #5 Jae Lee variant – with what I'm told are less than 400 copies in the world – has sold three copies for $50 each, which may be a steal when all is said and done.
The three main covers to Hellmouth #1 are going for $17.99 but good luck finding them at that price for much longer.
The Hellmouth #1 Frison 1:25 Virgin Variant started at $25 and, after multiple sales at escalating prices, has got bids for $100.
We're interested to see what Hellmouth #1 looks like with speculators when the foil cover hits on October 30th – and with the increased attention from speculators, today might be the day to reserve a copy at your local comic shop…if they're not already sold out.
