Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #1 Retailer Variant Cover – It's Not Kamiyama

imageLast week, Diamond Comic Distributors told retailers that they would be getting a special free surprise variant cover to Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #1, one per store, by Kariyama.

The only comic artist by that name that Bleeding Cool could identify was an artist who drew a few pages for Earth 2. And Marvel Comics reps didn't even  know the name.

Turns out that was a mistake from the solicits from Diamond Comic Distributors. And that the variant cover is a B&W version of the main cover by Kamome Shirahama, seen to the right.

Though Diamond call him Karmome Shirahama in their correction. But I'm the last person to quibble over typos. There's probably three in this article alone.

With advance sales of the cover clocking up $200 – all labeled the "Kamiyama variant" – even before people knew what it looked like or who it was by, they wanted it.
