Swipe File: John Richard Zollo And The Kubert School
The other new additions to the teaching staff include Kubert School graduate and professional letterer Rod Ollerenshaw, and computer graphics instructor John Richard Zollo, a graduate of Seton Hall University.
That's how the Kubert School announced the hiring of John Richard Zollo a few weeks ago. But, unlike the others, he's not mentioned on the School website now.
Mostly because he didn't last long. After serious allegations that he forged his entire portfolio from other artists' work.
You can see one of his presentations here, the final screen claiming all the artwork as his, and asking people not to reproduce it.
Zollo's presentation and street graffiti.
The work of Minjae Lee, a 19 year old in Korea.
And plenty more… Amber Love writes;
Early suspicions were cast his way since he was not showing anything original only prints. A demonstration of coloring techniques was laughably recounted by an anonymous staff member who said Zollo colored the iris of a lion image then displayed a finished Narnia poster and simply declared, "This is what it looks like when completed." By the second week of classes, he was discovered as a fraud and sacked.
…
The staff and students are furious yet coping through comedy and harsh jokes. One example was the suggestion that there should be Justin's Law legislation where anyone caught stealing art would have to go door to door admitting his crimes. Others have gone on to come up with every pun in the book and rhyming "Zollo" with practically everything possible. "Zollo'd" and "Zollo'ing" are now verbs. Parodies of reality television shows are mocked with names like "That's So Zollo!"
