The Perfect Metaphor for Death in the Marvel Universe in Valkyrie #3 [Preview]
Jane Foster: Valkyrie #3 is in stores next week from Marvel Comics, by all but one of Jason Aaron, Al Ewing, CAFU, Cian Tormey, Frazer Irving, Ramon K. Perez, and Ted McGinley. We've got a preview below.
The recap page catches us up. Basically, Jane has only been on the job as Valkyrie for two issues and Heimdall has already been killed by Bullseye. Now she's gotta take him on a vacation, touring all the various afterlives in the Marvel Universe.
Which is kind of a perfect metaphor for the way characters constantly die and come back in Marvel Comics.
What is death but really just a sightseeing tour when at best you stay dead for six months and then return in a new number one issue?
And such is Hades, an afterlife left behind by the events of some super-mega-crossover event or another.
Is this what it looks like when death has no meaning?
Jane seems saddened…
…but why get upset? Just skip ahead to Heimdall: Rebirth, in stores sometime in 2020, and all will be right in the world again.
Valkyrie #3 hits stores on Wednesday.

When a longstanding Marvel character dies at the hands of Bullseye, Jane Foster must accept her new role and carry them to the world beyond. But she is not the Valkyrie of the past – nor is Bullseye's victim any ordinary hero. Valhalla is only one hall of the dead. The multiversal afterlife awaits.
