Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics announced today that The Walking Dead will be getting a color edition for the first time. Starting this October, the series is returning for a full re-print in full-color. Robert Kirkman made the announcement during Skybound Xpo this afternoon, revealing the new run which will be called The Walking Dead Deluxe, with each one of them being colored by artist Dave McCaig. The first issue will feature five different covers, which includes the original classic #1 cover re-colored by McCaig, and four and new covers from David Finch, and three series artists in Charlie Adlard, Julian Totino Tedesco, and Arthur Adams. There will also be future variants throughout the series, but Kirkman didn't get into details about them during the convention. What's more, for those of you who have been looking out for the long-lost Cutting Room Floor feature, each issue will include an installment from the series, which will include hand-written plots and inside info from Kirkman himself. Here's more details from the company on the announcement.
This deluxe revival of the series will also feature a memorable array of variant covers—by such artists as David Finch, Tony Moore, Julian Totino Tedesco, and Arthur Adams—commemorating major character introductions and the series' most memorable twists and turns. Each issue will include a new installment of "The Cutting Room Floor," featuring Kirkman's original handwritten plots along with commentary on abandoned storylines and plot points that may have changed along the way. This definitive presentation of the story will NOT be collected into trade paperback any time soon, so fans and new readers should not trade-wait to experience this fully colored edition of the popular survival horror series. Issue #1 will be available on October 7. Each following month two issues will be released.
The first issue of the series will drop into comic book shops on October 7th, 2020, with five different covers to choose from. The Walking Dead Deluxe #1 will also be available for purchase on Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play, and other digital comic book sources.
