Transmetropolitan Fans Can Get Shot In The Face

My first introduction to Warren Ellis was in a little know book called Transmetropolitan. It read like Hunter S. Thomspon and Robert Heinlein had made a love child that was born with a beard and a stunning vocabulary of curse words. It was also where I fell in love with the art of Darick Robertson. It was the first regular Vertigo series I'd buy and it was the first series that I preferred to collect in trades as reading twenty-two pages at a time was not nearly enough. I'm guessing that Chad Nevett felt the same way as he has put together Shot In The Face: A Savage Journey To The Heart Of Transmetropolitan.

Published by Sequart Research & Literacy Organization (sequart.org), the book is an in-depth analysis of the series that made Spider Jerusalem and his 'Filthy Assistants' famous. The five year run (1997-2002) was a futuristic, satirical and sometimes foul-mouthed look at journalism and politics that almost too closely mirrors the world we have now a decade later. This new book takes a look at the themes of the series, how they played out from multiple viewpoints and includes interviews with both Ellis and Robertson.

The book also includes contributions from  Greg Burgas, Johanna Draper Carlson, Julian Darius, Sara K. Ellis, Ryan K. Lindsay, Patrick Meaney, Jason Michelitch, Chris Murphy, Chad Nevett, Kevin Thurman, Brett Williams, and Sean Witzke. The cover is by Kevin Colden and the book is 164 pages with a cover prices of $12.99 in print or digitally on Kindle for $6.99.
