Connor McDavid To Be The Cover Athlete For 'NHL 18'
Well, it's time to see how well another person's career goes after being put on the cover of a game. Connor McDavid is one of the premiere stars of the Edmonton Oilers. He's the youngest captain of a team at age 19, became one of the best Center's in the entire sport right now, and helped lead his team to the playoffs after about a decade of the Oilers basically being one of the worst teams in hockey. He also snagged the Art Ross Trophy (NHL's leading scorer for the season) which has only been won by two people younger than him (Sidney Crosby and Wayne Gretzky). Short version: he's the best in the game right now.
So it should come as no surprise that EA Games tapped him to become the new cover athlete for NHL 18 when it get's released on September 15 for PS4 and XB1. McDavid released a statement on the matter saying "Representing NHL 18 as the cover athlete is an incredible honor. I've played EA Sports NHL every year since I was a kid. To appear on the cover, something that has been done previously by so many players that I respect and admire, is very exciting. I can't wait to play NHL 18."
EA has set up a site to sign up for a beta of the game if you'd like to try it in advance. Watching McDavid play this year was awesome as a hockey fan, here's hoping his career doesn't fall into the same game cover curse that many other athletes have dealt with over the years.
