Assassin's Creed Origins' Difficulty Settings Prove The Franchise Is Dead
The latest addition to the Assassin's Creed franchise will have the first difficulty settings in the long-time series, which has naturally incited a number of reactions from players. Now, Assassin's Creed Origins has already changed the series in a variety of ways, including exploration elements and the lack of the "counter to win" gameplay.
In an interview with Assasin's Central (via GamesRadar) game director Ashraf Ismail has revealed that the changes keep coming, with difficulty options being added in a first for the series. Ismail says that this new addition to Assassin's Creed arrives to cater to the wide fanbase of the series. You know, because the games just now have a wide fan base.
"Some people play for the historic context, some people for the narrative, some for the gameplay, and what we felt was by going deeper into the gameplay challenge of the game we're feeding one part of the audience, but not others so it was a natural step for us to think 'well, let's give difficulty settings.'"
He goes on to explain that these settings can be changed dynamically during the game to suit challenges currently being faced and will alter several aspects of enemies rather than just beefing up health bars.
Oh, and there's also a Discovery Tour mode which will release for free sometime after the main game's release on October 27.
So at this point we just need to sit back and accept that the Assassin's Creed franchise has been dead since AC: Brotherhood. Origins neither looks nor plays like an Assassin's Creed game. Much of the exploration and tomb raiding have been done better in other games, you know, like Tomb Raider. The combat is much like For Honor, but without as many options for blocks and parries.
Just, don't even bother with this one. It's been DOA since before E3, and there was a reason for it.
