  • Farigiraf is a unique evolution of Girafarig in Pokémon TCG's 'Scarlet & Violet' series.

With Sword & Shield officially concluded, the Scarlet & Violet era of the Pokémon TCG kicked off in March 2023 with a focus on the ninth generation of Pokémon games and the new region: Paldea. It all began with the Scarlet & Violet base set, which introduced major, lasting changes to the hobby. Now, the borders of the cards have become silver, matching the Japanese releases. Another major change is that now, each pack culminates in at least a holo-rare and two reverse holos. The major mechanic of this era is the lowercase ex, which features a double holographic pattern of a horizontal shine and a starry sparkle. Full Art exs now use a green, foil outline around the Pokémon. The Secret Rare section of expansions going forward features Full Arts, Illustration Rares and Special Illustration Rare exs, Full Art Trainers, Special Illustration Rare Trainers, and Gold Hyper Rares. On June 9, 2023, the Pokémon TCG released the second set of this era, Scarlet & Violet – Paldea Evolved, which focused on the Paldean Starters and the Treasures of Ruin Legendaries. In today's installment of this Scarlet & Violet – Paldea Evolved art spotlight, let's take a look at more Illustration Rares.

Farigiraf is a brand new Paldean Pokémon series introduced in Scarlet & Violet. This is a new evolution of Girafarig, who finally gets a second stage after it was introduced all those years back in Gold & Silver's Johto region. Here are Farigiraf's Dex entries:

Now that the brain waves from the head and tail are synced up, the psychic power of this Pokémon is 10 times stronger than Girafarig's.

The hardened head from the tail protects the head of the main body as Farigiraf whips its long neck around to headbutt enemies.

This Illustration Rare is drawn by Mina Nakai, who debuted in the special set Generations. Nakai is credited for drawing the Koraidon Illustration Rare from SV Black Star Promos, Electivire Illustration Rare from Crown Zenith, and Klawf Illustration Rare from Scarlet & Violet.

We get another new evolution of a Johto species next up.

Dudunsparce is a new evolution of Dudunsparce. Dudunsparce has two forms, including the Two-Segment Form and the Three-Segment Form. Let's take a look at this new evolution's Dex entries, which are distinct for each form.

Two-Segment Form Dunsparce:

This Pokémon uses its hard tail to make its nest by boring holes into bedrock deep underground. The nest can reach lengths of over six miles.

It drives enemies out of its nest by sucking in enough air to fill its long, narrow lungs, then releasing the air in an intense blast.

Three-Segment Form Dunsparce:

The gentle Dudunsparce will put Pokémon that wander into its nest onto its back and carry them to the entrance.

A recent study uncovered that the number of segments a Dudunsparce's body has is determined by the Pokémon's genes.

This Illustration Rare of Dudunsparce is drawn by by Saya Tsuruta, who depicts other species on this cute card, including Dedenne, Scatterbug, Diglett, Foongus, and Applin.

Interestingly, Mina Nakai, who drew the Farigiraf Illustration Rare, drew the regular print of Dudunsparce from this set as well.

Stay tuned for the journey through this special set as we continue to spotlight the cards and artwork of Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet – Paldea Evolved.
