Did You Know Its Dragon Quest Day in Japan?
Our calendars are filled with so many dumb holidays that don't mean anything. Go online right now and look and you'll find there's a dozen different holidays for today, the day before Memorial Day, and they're quite pointless. But in Japan, they have a whole committee that makes them official, like how today is Dragon Quest Day. We honestly didn't know this was a thing until we saw a story today on Dual Shockers where they got word that the Japan Anniversary Association officially made May 27th a holiday in celebration of the series' 32nd anniversary.
We're not entirely sure what the criteria is for getting a holiday in Japan, nor are we entirely sure there aren't more holidays like this for games like Final Fantasy. What we do know now is that unlike in America, the UK, or most other parts of the world, Japan has a committee that decides what's worthy of being put on their calendars as something worth celebrating. And the fact that a video games series that's been around over three decades got some recognition seems like a pretty cool thing to us. Or, as Nick cage might say on SNL… "That's high praise!"
