Game Studio Versus Evil Has Closed Its Doors After Ten Years
One of the coolest indie studios around has had to close its doors as Versus Evil has announced they they are ceasing operations.
Article Summary
- Versus Evil indie game studio shuts down after a decade.
- tinyBuild Games to maintain and operate Versus Evil's game library.
- No explicit reason provided for the closure; community gratitude expressed.
- Speculation about future developments and staff well-being lingers.
The sad times for gaming at the end of 2023 continue as Versus Evil recently announced that they have chosen to close up shop after being around for ten years. The indie gaming company posted a quick message last week on its Twitter/X profile, letting fans know that the company would be closing.
Today is a sad day. After 10 wonderful years, Versus Evil is shutting its doors. We've loved bringing you the best indie games we could find & sharing so many happy memories with you all, our amazing community! From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for everything!
The company did not give any particular reason why it was closing, as the majority of its messages back to fans were of them thanking them for their support. The biggest issue that was addressed right out the gate is that their games would continue to live on after they shut down everything, as the folks at tinyBuild Games will take over their library and continue to operate them moving forward. Whether that means just keeping them available for purchase and maintaining them, or if tinyBuild will continue to expand on the properties that have been created with new content and sequels, remains to be seen.
Our personal experience with Versus Evil is that they seemed to be one of the more chill companies around. Whenever we'd go to a PAX event, we'd see that logo in the mix of all the booths and knew we'd be seeing something cool, or at the very least, experimental. We will miss seeing that shield as one of the many beacons of hope in a crowded hall. No word yet on what will happen to the staff and developers, but we wish them the best and hope all of them land on their feet quickly.
