Gamedev.World Launches Fundraiser To Help Devs Post-GDC 2020
So in the wake of GDC 2020 being canceled, something many of us don't see is the financial aftermath that takes place on indie developers. While bigger companies like Facebook, Sony, and Electronic Arts can blow off their travel plans like its nothing and maybe even get their money back from organizers, it's the smaller companies who suffer a cancelation this big. Many of the indie devs who booked hotel rooms and flights, planned to ship their booth spaces and gear, took time out of their lives to be a part of the event… they are now out a ton of cash that they probably cannot recoup. So Gamedve.World is stepping in to help out with a fundraiser.
The organization announced over the weekend that from March 27th until April 3rd, they will be hosting a fundraiser to help out indie developers who were affected financially by GDC 2020 getting canned. According to the info, they will present for free, "live-translated, and online, various talks from both marginalized developers and the sponsors that made the event possible." You can get more info on how to donate at this link, but at the moment it doesn't appear as if you can donate early to get a head start on the event.
