Genji's Nerfed Ultimate Going Back To What It Was
If you've been playing Genji lately, you may have noticed that his ultimate ability was slightly nerfed. I didn't believe it until I took the character for a spin in training, but it's true, there's a slight time differential on his ability where he takes longer to swing, and therefore, you get in fewer attacks while it's running.
According to principal designer Geoff Goodman, who took to the Overwatch forums, he explained that the changes were made to make the move more like it should have been and that players were actually getting more hits than they should have.
"Before the last major patch, the amount of sword swings you could get changed depending on your latency. Strangely, if you had higher latency you could swing more often. This bug was fixed, which caused some players to suddenly get less swings than they were used to. Looking into this bug in more detail, the ping threshold before you could gain a single extra swing was somewhat low, so many people probably got used to 7 swings rather than 6."
He also said that they'd fix it down the road and return his ultimate ability back to the way it was and give you the seventh swing back, but no date was set for when that would occur. Until then, you'll just have to deal with it and work with the limitation.
