Grand Faux Pas: Epic Games Resets All The Bases In 'Fortnite'
Welp, back to the drawing board. If you've been working hard to create a base in Fortnite, you're probably not too pleased with the most recent update from Epic Games, which washed away any progress fans may have had on their accounts. A recent patch to everyone's Storm Shield Bases, which are permanent structures in the game that players build over time, were wiped clean by Epic Games. What's more, the move was intentional as it's part of a bigger plan from Epic, but the company didn't bother to tell players about it so they could find a way to save or salvage their materials beforehand. The company issued this apology on their website.
"As we move through Early Access we will be modifying the game and making changes to improve the experience, at times this will mean changes that require refunds to core systems like the skill tree, research tree, and storm shields. We are never going to reset your overall progression. Moving forward we'll make sure to communicate changes BEFORE they happen. Apologize again for the confusion."
Sadly, the damage has been done, and because of the way the game is structured, players have been offered no compensation of any kind since it appears Fortnite doesn't track players progress beyond their profile and ranking. Whether or not they just turned a bunch of their fan base off from the game is a side yet to be examined.
