New Esports Record Achieved During Dota 2's International Tournament
Probably one of the hardest things to do in eSports is setting new records of any kind. When you're planning tournaments and figuring out the odds and ends and then finally getting the matches on, no one's really thinking "I hope I break so-and-so's record at this." So it probably came as a surprise to planners for Dota 2's International Championship that they managed to score a world record simply by the design of the tournament for a second time.
The seventh annual event has achieved a world record for eSports prize pots of $20,770,460, breaking the record the same event set last year. They achieved this because the teams involved are constantly adding to the Battle Pass compendium, and will only continue to grow over the next couple weeks until the tournament kicks off, meaning the new record will be set in early August.
Since the prize pool surges each time an Immortal Treasure comes out, it's a safe bet the pool is going to rise once more when the final treasure is released. As we patiently await to see what the new total will be, you can catch the Dota 2 tournament from August 7-12 on Twitch as they hold it love from the Key Arena in Seattle.
