Razer Launching Their New "Paid To Play" System Soon
Going along with their "zVault" plans that were announced earlier this month, Razer has revealed a new "Paid To Play" system where the company will reward you for playing video games. IN a press release sent out this morning, the company revealed plans to pay people in their new zCurrency for playing their favorite games on Razer Cortex. Cortex is basically a system where if you took NVIDIA's graphics system and made it an optional menu on Steam, giving you the ability to adjust the game's graphics and sound options as you play without fiddling with the game's menu. The money you earn is used to get discounts and purchase Razer swag if that's the kind of thing you're into. No details were given to an official launch date, so we'll have to wait and see how the system works out. Min-Liang Tan, Razer's CEO and co-founder, had glowing remarks for the new system.
"The concept of everyday gamers getting paid to play has never been done before. … Gamers may reap the benefits of a rewards system simply by doing things they're already doing. The world of gaming is the ultimate even playing field, representing every kind of person in the world. We are excited about helping good people to get Razer products wherever they are, whatever their situations, and regardless of what game their playing, as long as they are gamers."
Time will tell as to whether or not gamers will be willing to switch over from their regular clients to the new one, but it'll be an interesting experiment on Razer's end to see how many people will be able to milk the system for as much free gear as possible.
