2018 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Nominees Announced

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just announced the candidates for induction in 2018. With 19 acts spanning the gamut of musical styles eligible this time, it stands to reason the ceremony will be one for the ages.

First established in 1983 by by Atlantic Records founder and chairman Ahmet Ertegun, the physical Hall and Exhibit resides in Cleveland Ohio and serves as a museum of sorts for genre. However, 'rock' contains aspects of blues, country, pop, rap, and other notable influences. So, don't be surprised when the list contains more than just your run-of-the-mill rock bands.

This marks the first year artists like Nina Simone, Judas Priest, Kate Bush, Eurythmics, Dire Straits, The Moody Blues, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe are eligible for induction. Returning nominees include Bon Jovi, LL Cool J, The Cars, Depeche Mode, J. Geils Band, MC5, The Meters, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Link Wray, and The Zombies.

You can read the official artist bios on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame website here, and then vote for your top five!

Artists and groups become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria for being chosen include the influence and significance of the artists' contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll, as well as general prowess and artistry. After the 'class' is announced, voting takes place. To be selected for induction, performers must receive the highest number of votes, and also greater than 50% of the votes.

More than 900 members of the music industry will now vote on who will be officially inducted, and the results will be announced this December. Fans will also be able to influence the outcome. The top five artists chosen by the public will be considered part of a "fans' ballot" that will be tallied with the other ballots to select the inductees. Fans can vote between now and 11:59 p.m. ET on December 5th.

The 2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place at the Public Auditorium in Cleveland on April 14th, 2018 and air on a later date on HBO.
