It feels like it happened half a lifetime ago, but Jurassic World: Dominion was released in June 2022. While it didn't exactly do well critically at all, commercially, the film did exceptionally well and made over a billion at the worldwide box office. When you crack a billion in a post-COVID world, the reviews matter very little compared to that number. However, even with the billion-dollar box office, the COVID delays in terms of filming really hurt this production, and it seemed like Universal might be moving on. We really shouldn't be surprised that they are not with this franchise because, again, this is the third film in this franchise to gross over a billion dollars at the box office. According to The Hollywood Reporter, we are getting more dinosaurs as David Koepp, who wrote the original Jurassic Park and its sequel, is writing this new installment.
As THR points out, the fact that they are specifically calling this another "Jurassic World" film is likely telling, and it seems more than likely that this new film will have some sort of connection to the previous trilogy of films. What kind of connection or how connected remains to be seen, but this will likely be in the universe where the Park was open at some point. They are saying that this is supposed to be "launching a new Jurassic era." However, the world is massive, and there are so many different angles they could explore after the Park was opened or right after the events of Fallen Kingdom and how the world adapted to that, and more. THR's sources are saying that, "the project, which has been flying under the radar, is far enough along, and the script in a well-liked shape, that the studio is whispering of a possible 2025 release date." Currently, no director is attached, but CinemaCon is right around the corner, so maybe we'll hear something about that right around then.
