Antebellum, a new horror film set up at Lionsgate directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, debuted its teaser trailer this morning. The duo is most known for advertising campaigns for luxury brands and some music videos for the likes of Jay-Z and more. Uhh, other than that, not much else is actually known about this one, besides that it stars Janelle Monáe and is about a "mind-bending mystery". Check out the trailer below:
Successful author Veronica Henley (Janelle Monáe) finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it's too late. ANTEBELLUM is a terrifying new thriller from the producer of the acclaimed films GET OUT and US, and groundbreaking directors Gerard Bush and Christoper Renz (Bush+Renz) – an exciting new voice in filmmaking.
Three posters for the film also debuted, which you can see below. For sure giving off the Us vibe with these.
There is a lot going on in that trailer. The story seems to span decades, with Monáe coming at this time period from another prospective than her role in Harriet, out in theaters now. In that film she plays Marie Buchanan, who helped Harriet Tubman with the Underground Railroad. With Bush+Renz making their feature film debut with Antebellum, it is not hard to see where they are taking cues from with The Shining, Us, and Get Out vibes very apparent.
Antebellum, starring Janelle Monáe, Marque Richardson II, Eric Lange, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, Tongayi Chirisa, Gabourey Sidibe, Rob Aramayo, Lily Cowles, and Jena Malone opens in theaters on April 24, 2020.
