Though he didn't ask for his release, Austin Aires wanted WWE to fire him, according to a new report from Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer Radio show.

Austin Aires Glad WWE Fired Him, Claims Meltzer; Plus: Kevin Nash Tears Meniscus

Aires was released suddenly by WWE this weekend, along with a string of unexpected moves from the company that also included inviting former TNA owner Dixie Carter to appear on the WWE Network for a Kurt Angle special and booking AJ Styles to win the United States championship from Kevin Owens at an untelevised house show, even though Owens was reportedly not injured.

According to Meltzer, Aires was thrilled when he learned he was fired, as it leaves him free to wrestle anywhere as soon as his 90 day no compete clause is over. Aires was reportedly upset that his WrestleMania pre-show match against Neville was excluded from the show's home video release, robbing Aires of potential royalties.

While this story was being reported, Kevin Nash didn't tear his quad, despite earlier speculation. However, he did tear his meniscus and will soon undergo knee surgery.
