It Was A Bad Time For Oliver Queen To Go On Vacation

Last night's Arrow had a lot going on, so much that I'm just going to jump right in and break it down by story.

We'll start with what I consider the A story, Oliver Queen going to break John Diggle out of prison with Lila Michaels help. This has been multiple seasons in the making, the relationship between Oliver and John, the anger and then guilt John feels about his brother's deaths… Digg felt he deserved to do the time for the crime he didn't do because of the crime he did. It's a nice reminder that Oliver is a bad-ass and doesn't always need a team. Also, it was very cute to see the new recruits try and stop him only to be taken down in seconds.

The B story involves Adrian Chase and Quentin Lance taking evidence into custody and Chase trying to interrogate one of Tobias Church's men. Church is making the police and Team Arrow look like idiots and we know there is more going on with Adrian Chase… I'd almost say that he was on his way to becoming the Vigilante, but we got the image of him in the season premiere so we know someone is out there already. This dovetails into…

The C story is holding the new recruits together, keeping Wild Dog from getting off his leash. Also they needed to deal with Felicity Smoak telling Rory Reagan that it was her fault Havenrock was destroyed instead of Monument Point. This was hanging over the series from the moment Ragman was brought in, so it was nice that they dealt with it and did so in a way that doesn't just wipe it clean, but is a work in progress.

Ragman came back in time to help the team save a lot of cops and Chase, but Church was still able to injury Curtis Holt and capture Wild Dog. But in this fight we got to see that the team is progressing and has potential… but a long way to go. The fall out of Wild Dog's capture will be a big part of next week and we should see the beginning of a connection between Diggle and Rene Ramirez.

I'm liking this new season, enjoying the return to the more street level heroics and even the flashbacks. Oliver in Russia serves to answer the Bratva question from season one, continue the story with Anatoly Knyazev (Also know as the KGBeast) and bring Oliver full circle to the man that was found on the island in the series premiere.

Now we get to next week. It looks like Wild Dog breaks and gives up that Oliver Queen is Green Arrow. This leads to Church hiring a hitman to take out the mayor. I would be more shocked by the scene of Oliver getting gunned down if the title of the episode wasn't Human Target. You may be familiar with the character of Christopher Chance / the Human Target from either the comics, or the two different live-action television series. If you're not, the basic way Chance works is when someone's life is threatened, he steps in and takes over for them until the threat is neutralized. He becomes that intended victim, lives their life and stays in harms way. The synopsis says Oliver must turn to an old friend. Bringing in Chance allow Green Arrow to not only be in two places at once, making the information Church got seem false… but lets GA go after the hitman. I'm going to assume there's a few extra twists and turns in there to make it extra interesting.
