Blumhouse Green Lights Remake of 'The Craft' With Director Zoe Lister-Jones
Blumhouse is bringing the witches from the cult favorite The Craft back to theaters. Website Production Weekly has the remake/reimagining/whatever it is going in front of the camera this July with director Zoe Lister-Jones (Band Aid) from a script co-written by Lister-Jones and Daniel Casey. Sony Pictures will make the film along with Blumhouse, with Jason Blum, Doug Wick, and Lucy Fisher all producing.
When starting at a new school, Hannah befriends Tabby, Lourdes, and Frankie, and quickly becomes the fourth member of their Clique. Hannah soon learns that she somehow brings great power to the quartet.
It is a good thing to see Blumhouse finally giving a female director a shot after the regrettable comments made by studio head Jason Blum last year about female directors not working at his studio. While making those comments, he realized how wrong he was and that it needed correcting. This is a great first step, as there are a bunch of strong, important female perspectives in the horror genre and they deserve every opportunity they can get. Especially a film like this one. Hopefully this is the first of many similar announcements in the future.
Sony Pictures and Blumhouse's The Craft has no cast or release date yet.
