Critics Choice Awards 2021 Have Been Pushed Back
The 2021 Critics Choice Awards have been postponed. Following the postponement and extensions of the other major awards shows submission deadlines these last few days, it was inevitable that others would have to move as well. The new date for the show will be March 7, 2021, and is still being planned as a live show with an audience. That is subject to change, of course. The Critics Choice Awards will be hosted by Taye Diggs, who also hosted the last three years as well. The awards show will air on The CW. Variety had the news of the move.
Critic Choice Awards Has a Weird Timeline
Look at how early the timeline starts for this show. Remember: they honor TV and film:
January 4, 2021 – NomComs begin consideration
January 15, 2021 – NomComs render recommendations
January 18, 2021 – Critics Choice Awards TV nominations announced
March 4, 2021 – Final ballots go out to CCA TV Branch members
March 5, 2021 – Deadline for returning final ballots
Film Awards Timeline
February 1, 2021 – Nominating ballots go out to CCA Film Branch members
February 5, 2021 – Deadline for returning nominating ballots
February 7, 2021 – Critics Choice Awards Film nominations announced
March 4, 2021 – Final ballots go out to CCA Film Branch members
March 5, 2021 – Deadline for returning final ballots
TV gets five months for submissions, while film gets about a month. That's pretty crazy. Also, right now, it is kinda crazy to think about awards shows. What are those going to look like next year? Yes, there are too many of them, but even so, they are still fun to watch, and if a show like the Critics Choice Awards has no audience that will change the whole dynamic of the show. Will there even be enough films released at this point to give awards to? Crazy to think about worrying about awards season at a time like this, but here we are.
