Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Photos, A Logo, And Character Breakdowns
We learned quite a bit about the next installment in the Harry Potter series, including the title and a logo.
Entertainment Weekly also took the time to break down the character image we got today and give us some close-ups of the various characters.
Jude Law as young Albus Dumbledore – Dumbledore in his roguishly handsome prime and rocking a royal blue corduroy and what we assume is his never-before-seen original wand. We know that Albus will enlist his former student Newt Scamander to help him take down the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald as war threatens to break out among muggles and the wizarding world alike.
Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald – He's back! The most notorious wizard of all time (at least, until Voldemort came along) was revealed at the end of the first film when he was captured by American wizards. He's Dumbledore's former close friend and escapes custody at the start of the new film. He's gathering pure-blood followers and is plotting to conquer mankind. Notice he's carrying the legendary Elder Wand, which was in Grindelwald's possession until his legendary duel with Dumbledore in 1945.
Zoë Kravitz as Leta Lestrange; Callum Turner as Theseus Scamander – Two newcomers who look they might cause some trouble. Kravitz is Leta Lestrange, who was once a close friend of Newt's (everybody assumes she is somehow related to mad Bellatrix Lestrange from the Harry Potter tales). Now she's engaged to Newt's celebrated brother, Theseus, who's a war hero and the Head of the Auror Office at the British Ministry of Magic. Plenty of potential there for dramatic conflict with our heroes, it sounds like.
Ezra Miller as Credence Barebone; Claudia Kim as Maledictus – Another power couple? Troubled Credence is now confirmed to return, but with a better haircut this time and a more stylish costume. All we know about Maledictus is she's the carrier of a blood curse that destines her ultimately to transform into a beast.
Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski; Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein – The charming muggle-wizard couple from first film received a wardrobe upgrade too. How they fit into the new storyline remains to be seen.
Katherine Waterston as Porpentina "Tina" Goldstein; Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander – Oh, we know these two! The American-English duo look pretty much the same as in the first film. We're told Newt has now gained fame in the wizarding world as the author of his beast guidebook, and Tina has been reinstated as an Auror for MACUSA.
We were told that this was the direction that these movies were heading, but it's kind of cool to see it start to play out. Harry Potter fans are going to love learning more about the history of their favorite fictional world.
