The Funniest Scene In 'Wonder Woman' Was Improvised

One of the better scenes in Wonder Woman is when Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) and Diana (Gal Gadot) have just left Themyscira by boat. They have a very funny exchange about sleeping arrangements, sex, and marriage that is not only hilarious but also shows the natural chemistry between the two characters. We knew about a month ago that there was an improvised scene in Wonder Woman but now that the movie is out properly we know more about the scene.

"She has to be the straight woman, that's the harder part," he says. "She's delivering lines like 'My father is Zeus' — s— that is just so ridiculous. And she has to say it with a straight face, with a certain amount of innocence and earnestness. I get to react like any human being would to hearing something as ridiculous as that. So I had easy."

The scene works on a bunch of different levels. It gives Steve and Diana some time to bond when they haven't really had a chance to do that yet. It answers a few questions about the society of the Amazons and what they think about men. It also works as a break from a very intense scene. We just saw Diana walk away from her family and her home forever and now we're laughing as Steve tries to explain the concept of marriage and why they can't sleep next to each other. Pine has done comedy before but we haven't seen that from Gadot before. Improvisation isn't easy and the fact that those two made it look effortless says a lot about how well they work together.

Summary: Before she was Wonder Woman she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained warrior. When a pilot crashes and tells of conflict in the outside world, she leaves home to fight a war to end all wars, discovering her full powers and true destiny.

Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, David Thewlis, Robin Wright, and Connie Nielsen. Check it out in theaters now.
