The last we heard about the James Gunn Suicide Squad movie is it's a total reboot. We heard that there was going to be very little as far as crossover from the previous movie. In fact, the only characters that were set to return were Harley Quinn played by Margot Robbie and Deadshot played by Idris Elba replacing Will Smith. Now it sounds like there is going to be more crossover. Business Insider was interviewing Jai Courtney and he revealed that he will be returning for the sequel/not sequel as Captain Boomerang.
"We're getting ready to shoot in a few months' time," Courtney said, while promoting his upcoming movie "Storm Boy" (in theaters April 5). "There's not much else I can reveal about it but, yeah, you'll be seeing Boomerang back for sure."
Courtney wasn't exactly one of the weakest links of the previous movie but he was lacking in boomerangs which was kind of a letdown. However, if there was a director or writer that could come up with some insane boomerangs for this character to use it would be Gunn.
"I'm happy, it's going to be fun," Courtney said. "It will be different, for sure, but it's going to be great."
So is this new movie a reboot? A sequel? A soft reboot? Who knows. We are talking about a group of characters that could be killed with the push of a button. Maybe they are planning on killing off most of the main cast ten minutes into the movie. That would be one hell of a beginning.
The Suicide Squad is scheduled to be released on August 6, 2021. If Courtney is right about the timeline of production as can expect casting to be announced sooner rather than later.
