Jumping The Gunn: Guardians Of The Galaxy Director Denies Denying Adam Warlock Rumors

Good morning, folks, and welcome to another edition of Jumping the Gunn, the entertainment new segment where we in the media monitor every social media fart or offhand comment by Hollywood celebrities, looking for any opportunity to take something they say completely out of context and start a baseless rumor about it for clicks, named for Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn (pictured below).

In this week's Jumping the Gunn, we take a look at a ComicBook.com rumor about which Marvel Legends superhero dolls indicate secret character appearances in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It started out with speculation, which ComicBook.com blames on "fans," that the inclusion of Adam Warlock and Darkhawk action figures alongside official movie tie-in toys indicated that those characters would appear in the upcoming film. The website took a break from publishing Bill Paxton death clickbait (How Would Carrie Fisher React To Bill Paxton's Death If She Weren't Also Dead?) to report that Gunn had denied the characters would be in the film when Gunn appeared on a Facebook live chat to say:

All you need to do is look at the packaging, you guys. On the packaging cover, it says Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on the figures that are from the movie and it doesn't say Vol. 2 on the other figures. So that should tell you what's from the movie and what's not.

But hold on! Gunn didn't say "that should tell you who's in the movie." He said it should tell you "what's from the movie," an important distinction, because Gunn took to Twitter today to deny that he denied Adam Warlock and Darkhawk would be in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Gunn was trying to combat the entertainment media Jumping the Gunn by clarifying his statement, but all he managed to do was fracture the rumor into multiple possibilities, any one of which would make good fodder for its very own Jumping the Gunn clickbait. Does this mean that Warlock and Darkhawk will not be in Guardians of the Galaxy? Does it mean they will be in it, but those toys aren't based on the movie versions? Will one character be in it but not the other in a major snub? Is James Gunn just @#$%ing with everyone? Is someone writing these headlines down? Because this is good stuff!

Of course, the only way to know for sure whether or not Adam Warlock or Darkhawk will be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is to wait until the movie hits theaters on May 5 and look for yourself, and then, probably, to carefully review dozens of clickbait articles analyzing the film for possible Easter eggs that could reveal hidden Darkhawks or Adam Warlocks, just in case. We'll get to work on those right away, and just fill in a few details when the movie actually comes out, so that we've got them ready for you when you're ready to click.

Until then, ask yourself this question: is it possible that James Gunn is ordering reshoots on GOTG2 right now to retroactively add or remove Darkhawk and Adam Warlock? There's no evidence of this, but we think it may just warrant an entire article examining the possibility. See you soon!
