Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – The New Direction While Remaining True to the Universe

There are some movies that you watch where you know, right away, that you're watching a game changer. The first Star Wars, Indiana Jones, The Avengers, these are movies that are going to shift the focus of movies as we know it. One of those movies is 1993's Jurassic Park as audiences got to witness cutting edge animatronics bring the dinosaurs back. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom director J.A. Bayona recently told Entertainment Weekly that he remembers seeing Jurassic Park and knowing it was going to change things.

"I remember perfectly that I felt I was watching a moment in movie history," says the Barcelona native. "I thought from that moment on, everything you could imagine, no matter how crazy that could be, would be possible to see on screen in a realistic way. It was movie history."

The new trailer that was just released is finally telling us what the second half of the movie is going to be about. We learned early on that the stuff with the volcano on the island was the first half and the second half would be something completely different.

"The first half, you have a whole dinosaur movie on the island, so you have what you expect from a Jurassic movie," says Bayona. "Then the second half moves to a totally different environment that feels more suspenseful, darker, claustrophobic, and even has this kind of gothic element, which I love."

Star Chris Pratt said that while they are trying to keep the movie true to the series they are also trying to do something different.

"At the end of the day, we're all trying to make something that will be part of the Jurassic empire and tonally match the previous movies, but we're going off in a new direction."

While doing something different is admirable fans are notorious for hating change. There is a chance that fans might not like the direction that Bayona and his team take Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom but Pratt says that worrying about that isn't what he's here to do.

"I feel like anxiety is a burden of the hyper-intelligent," says Pratt with a laugh. "It's someone else's job to worry about that. I just show up, stand on the X, say the lines, and give them all three of my scared faces."

All three? Maybe we are in for a treat after all.

Summary: When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, directed by J.A. Bayona, stars Jeff Goldblum, Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Toby Jones, James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Geraldine Chaplin, Rafe Spall, B.D. Wong, and Justice Smith. It will be released on June 22nd.
