'Marian' Sells To Sony With Margot Robbie In The Lead Role
A few weeks ago we posted an article talking about how a script called Marian was making its way around Hollywood. It appears to have found a home, as predicted, at Sony with Margot Robbie attached to star according to Deadline. The elevator pitch of "Braveheart meets Game of Thrones" is still being thrown around and the summary of the movie doesn't appear to have changed much since the initial rumors.
After a conspiracy to conquer England in which the love of her life Robin Hood dies before her eyes, Marian picks up the cause to lead her people into a pivotal war. She comes to power, charging into a battle that will not only decide the fate of the kingdom but will see her don the mantle of the man she loved. In the process, she rises as a legend herself.
The producers who managed to get their hands on this script were Donald De Line and Amy Pascal with Robbie's company LuckyChap Entertainment also producing. Robbie is considered a rising star after being one of the only semi good parts of last summers Suicide Squad.
There is money in brands, even one as simple as Robin Hood, but if attaching it to a known brand is what it takes to get a female lead period drama made, then bring it on.
