Nerd Food: M&M's Want To Fight Climate Change
According to Business Insider, Mars – the company behind M&M's, Skittles and Twix – announced on Wednesday that they would pledge $1 billion over the next few years to fight climate change. Their new "Sustainability in a Generation" plan aims to reduce their carbon footprint by 60% by 2050.
"We've been increasingly worried about overall progress on the big issues, whether that's climate change or solving poverty," Bary Parkin–Mars' chief sustainability officer said, "There are obviously commitments the world is leaning into but, frankly, we don't think we're getting there fast enough collectively. We're trying to go all in here." Mars hopes by doing this, other companies will follow suit. Since they are in the food business, agriculture plays a big (if not the biggest) role in bringing their products to the public. Climate change has been a hot topic in politics for a long while, and while certain people in charge seem to think there's nothing wrong, it's nice to see other big companies taking action. So here's to you M&M's, the true Guardians of the Galaxy!
