Rian Johnson Quashes Rumors That New Star Wars Trilogy is an Adaption of Knights of the Old Republic
There is a lot of speculation about what Rian Johnson's next Star Wars trilogy is going to be about. All we know is that it takes place away from the Skywalkers, but further than that, we don't have many clues to go off of. Here is one hyper-specific thing it isn't going to be though: an adaption of Knights of the Old Republic.
Fans really do like that game, and when word of the new trilogy hit, supposedly there had been some talk about wanting the movie to be a take on the games — or at least take place in that timeline. Sadly, it doesn't seem to be the case. Speaking to Mashable, Johnson admits to actually liking the game, but confirms his movies will have nothing to do with them.
"Oh, they love Knights of the Old Republic. I played that game when it first came out and it was like, god, I loved it. Yeah, that's a fantastic game. And I understand it, the instinct to automatically go to something that you know and love, that you've already seen. To me, what's really fun is the notion of what new stuff are we gonna see, what new stories can we tell?"
In all honesty, this seems fair to me. Disney, I'm sure, wants to push forward with new characters to market and sell, too. That all being said, I do think the time period, which is set a long, long, long time before the movies, could be fertile ground. At the same time, again, I definitely see it pushing forward and not back.
