Seven Thoughts About Misfits #3.6 And Misfits: Erazer
Sunday night, another great episode, and only one episode left. Where has the time gone? Well at least we get a whole Misfits episode and a little extra on the side.
Those Orange Suits Are There For A Reason
"They always send a new probation worker after we've killed one". Without a job, without the mundanity of probation work, more things are possible. With the dangers they bring. The devil provides work for idle hands it seems.
The Sex Detectives
Three cases, the hunt for the woman who took Rudy's penis, with Rudy and Simon acting like buddy cops. Why Curtis keeps switching – and how the hell he got in that condition. And if Kelly and Seth can work as a couple.
Garth Ennis wanted to do this Preacher spinoff back in the day, but Vertigo wouldn't let him. I like to think the Rudy/Simon team is how it might have played out.
"We've Got To Save Me Cock."
This, right here, is the difference between Heroes and Misfits. The American show had a vision of the future that meant if they saved the cheerleader, they'd save the world. In Misfits, they're saving neither, just the fate of Rudy's penis. Plus we get the discussion of rape, flashing a rotting penis at a twelve year old girl, and a daring police cell escape.
The Ex Factor
Many relationships bring baggage with them. Specifically previous relationships that still have a grip in the current day. And a dead partner is a lot to deal with. As ever, with Misfits, real, everyday situations are underlined, exaggerated, given new consequences and possibilities by powers. And there is one power Seth has been searching for through the series. Is it one that Kelly can overcome? Would she want to?
Immaculate Conception
Well, it is almost Christmas, we should have a story dealing with a virgin birth. Even if it has a rather modern ending. And will Curtis realise that his very condition subconsciously caused him to react in the way he did?
Little Boxes On A Hillside
Boxes, trapped, lack of ambition. That's what the camera shows, how the shots are cropped. But things have to change and despite the intentions of our Misfits, the powers do exactly that. Unless of course the characters take advantage of a variety of reset buttons, such as Curtis' rather callous decision without thinking of the consequences. Will that come back to haunt him?
Rubbed One Out
There' a spinoff mini-episode on E4.com to help trial a new writer. Expect to see Chris Coghill write for series four. Or possibly Misfits America. And those boxes I just talked about get a little literal here, helped with some rather cramped and cropped direction. Worlds within worlds within a graffiti artist's conception. Just not a very imaginative graffiti artist, sadly.
Damn I'm going to miss this series after next week. Thankfully we have a little Doctor Who to come
