The Stakes In Avengers: Infinity War And Avengers 4 Will Be "Intense"

Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 are going to be huge. We're talking about two movies with a combined budget of a billion dollars and the culmination of over a decade's worth of storytelling. While no one has said that Avengers 4 is leading into a soft reboot for the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, they kind of need to.

The actors playing these roles, unlike their comic counterparts, are aging. Much like in the comics, there hasn't been many deaths of characters significant to the Marvel Universe. But it looks like there are going to be bodies hitting the floor in these films, and during an interview with io9, director Joe Russo spoke about the high stakes he and his brother Anthony Russo want in these movies:

"You know, with Winter Soldier and with Civil War, my brother and I like stakes. We believe in stakes for these movies, we fight for stakes on these films, and I think people should be prepared for a very intense experience in both Avengers 3 and Avengers 4. And they should be prepared for some pretty big surprises."

The problem with this storyline is that the Infinity Gauntlet could have the ability to bring someone back from the dead. The Skrulls will also be in play as soon as Captain Marvel is released, and any dead Avengers could be explained by saying "it was just a Skrull impostor." In any case, the Russos clearly have an idea for what kind of movie they want to make in these Avengers sequels, and they want people to know that they aren't screwing around.

Avengers: Infinity War, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, stars Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Chadwick Boseman, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Bradley Cooper, and Anthony Mackie. It will be released on May 4th, 2018.
