Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Warwick Davis Reminds Us That All Movies Are Divisive

So, this little movie called Star Wars: The Last Jedi came out in December and some people got really, really mad about it. Then they got really, really mad at anyone who liked it. Then they decided the concept of numbers made them angry and tried to break a review aggregate website. There were some pretty extreme reactions from everyone all around and people were calling the movie "divisive". Some movies are less or more so than others, but the basis on opinion is that everyone has a different one. Star Wars actor Warwick Davis was recently asked by The List about the divided opinion and he reminded us that all movies are divided.

"I wasn't aware it had divided opinion but all movies divide opinion – some people will like it, some people won't. I'll always love 'Star Wars'. It's a piece of entertainment, it's not about making political statements. It's just there for people to enjoy. You go in there and are supposed to lose yourself in the world the director has created. 'Star Wars' has always been a great example of that – it's pure escapism and you can forget the 21st century for a couple of hours. That was George Lucas's philosophy with 'Star Wars' – to make a fun adventure."

So there's your friendly reminder that you don't have to love a movie and you don't have to hate it. You can do either, but to get mad at people who liked a thing you didn't is silly. That's the nature of opinion. It's when you start sending threatening messages to people on social media that we have a problem.

Summary: Rey develops her newly discovered abilities with the guidance of Luke Skywalker, who is unsettled by the strength of her powers. Meanwhile, the Resistance prepares to do battle with the First Order.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, directed by Rian Johnson, stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, and Adam Driver. It's out now.
