Star Wars Rebels – All The Thrill Of The Original Trilogy

star-wars-rebels-blu-ray-847x1024The second season of Star Wars Rebels will be kicking off on October 14th, while the complete first season is now available on Blu-ray / DVD… and I have to say it is worth picking up.

Having grown up in the 70's and 80's, Star Wars and comic books were my life. I spent one summer with my friend Jason whose father had the first film on laser disc, watching it over and over again. I think we watched it close to 40 times before school started up again. I could recite the scenes word for word. When enhanced editions came out in the 90's, I was there for premiere nights thanks to a friend who worked at Taco Bell corporate.

But with the release of the prequel trilogy, my interest began to wane. I just didn't get the same feeling of excitement as when I was younger. I chocked it up to having grown up. So when Disney bought Lucasfilms, I remained apprehensive.

What surprised me is that I do feel that excitement again… but not for the upcoming films. I really enjoy the universe created in Star Wars Rebels. Set in a period of time just prior to A New Hope, we get to focus on the crew of the Ghost. The relationship between Kanan Jarrus, one of the last Jedi and Hera Syndulla, the extremely talented pilot. We follow Ezra Bridger's journey from being a lost soul to finding his way with the Force. And we get to watch Zeb Orrelios, Sabine Wren and Chopper get into all kinds of mischief.

Plus we get some old favorites like Lando Calrissian, Darth Vader, Yoda, C-3PO and Obi Wan-Kenobi.

And the Blu-ray has some pretty cool bonus content: A look at the Rebels event at the Star Wars Celebration, a 22 minute recap of season 1, a look ahead at season 2, 14 behind the scene featurettes and all four of the shorts that were released to Youtube (The Machine in the Ghost, Art Attack, Entanglement and Property Of Ezra Bridger).

Star Wars Rebels: The Complete First Season is in stores now.
