The Black Phone Director is Expected to Return for the Upcoming Sequel

When asked by Comic Book about the possibility of filmmaker Scott Derrickson stepping back into the directorial role for a sequel to The Black Phone, producer Ryan Turek coyly tells the site, "Yeah, Scott's coming back. I think it's too early to talk about anything else regarding that, but yeah [Derrickson's returning]." While this might have been assumed based on the return of everyone attached, this acts as the first real piece of concrete evidence that Derrikson will be attached to The Black Phone 2 after all.

While previously talking about what his character could be like in the upcoming sequel, star Ethan Hawke shared, "I'm an actor, and I really enjoy storytelling in all its — there's a place for small art film, and there's a place for a love story, and there's a place for, 'Let's get together and watch a movie at midnight and scare the hell out of each other,' right? If you're a performer, I have a love for all those different genres of the ways to tell stories, and I've spent my life trying to push myself to do different kinds of things. That director, Scott Derrickson, is really brilliant, and if he asks me to do something, I'll do it."

The Black Phone's official synopsis: "The phone is dead. And it's ringing. Director Scott Derrickson returns to his terror roots and partners again with the foremost brand in the genre, Blumhouse, with a new horror thriller, The Black Phone. Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer's previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn't happen to Finney."

The Black Phone 2 doesn't have a release date yet, but with so many returns already confirmed, we can expect more on that front very soon.
