Today, America Sees Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Tonight, They Start Shipping It.

This is not a spoiler for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Nothing more than in the trailers.

But after watching the film, and knowing the tendency for people to see the strongest performers and wondering how their roles may occur in a fashion not obliquely shown on the screen, if I was minded to engage in such activity, I would totally be shipping Finn and Kylo Ren right now.

Both have lived much of their life in the Empire, both have other aspects to their lives which are explored in the film and, let's face it, both are the central male figures of the film who are not in their seventies. And there's that lightsaber battle in a snowy forest which you saw in the trailers, even if one of them is a black man and the other is fighting him with, basically, a burning cross. This is a long time ago after all, in a galaxy far, far away. And it's just very… intense.

So it's going to happen. It just doesn't seem to have happened yet. But today, America sees the movie. Then everything changes….
