Warner Bros. Is Not Pressuring the Aquaman 2 Team to Rush the Sequel

It seems that Warner Bros. might have finally learned a lesson. There is nothing to be gained from a project that is rushed. You need to give your filmmakers time to craft their worlds and if you don't the movie could end up a mess. It's how the script for Suicide Squad was written in six weeks and that movie was a mess. The movies that have worked, that is Wonder Woman and Aquaman, are the two where Warner Bros. backed off a little. They let the people making the film actually make the movie they want to make. It very much sounds like this will be true for Aquaman 2. According to producer Peter Safran to The Hollywood Reporter Warner Bros. has not placed any pressure on the team to rush the sequel.

"[Hamada], myself and James Wan always shared the same philosophy, which is: You want to do it right," Safran said. "You don't want to do it fast. You just want to do it right."

DC seems to be shifting the focus away from team-up movies and more on delivering great solo productions. It's a move that Safran believes is the right one and that, if you're doing it right, there isn't any need to bring them all together at all.

"DC's got a nice slate of movies that are coming out. … I think that when you're making really strong stand-alone movies, there's really no need to bring them together," he said. "You want to give these characters room to breathe and live, and tell their stories."

If Warner Bros. takes one lesson to the heart from Aquaman is that you should give filmmakers the time they need to make the movies they want to make. You end up with critical and commercial darlings that become cultural touchstones [Wonder Woman] or giant spectacles that tap into exactly what audience want from movies at this moment[Aquaman].

Summary: Arthur Curry learns that he is the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, and must step forward to lead his people and to be a hero to the world.

Aquaman is directed by James Wan, stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Patrick Wilson, Willem Dafoe. It is available for digital download now and will be released for Blu-ray, 4K Blu-ray Ultra HD, and DVD on March 26th.
