2017 Television Countdown #5: Mazikeen Won't be in the Early Parts of Lucifer Season 3

I can normally tell why a certain story gets more traction than another. This one on the other hand has me completely baffled. It's a simple story saying that actress Lesley-Ann Brandt's character of Mazikeen wouldn't be around in the early episodes of Lucifer season 3 because the actress was pregnant and would be off having the child and bonding. The story to a lot of hits when we first ran it and again when the season started and people wondered where the character was. But every couple of weeks it breaks back into the top five television stories, even as recently as last weekend. This article is a lot like the Lucifer series, just keeps going. A television series about the devil solving crimes would seem like a tough sell, but there is something about Tom Ellis, Brandt and the rest of the cast that has people hooked.

2017 Television Countdown #5: Mazikeen Won't be in the Early Parts of Lucifer Season 3

Original Headline: Lesley-Ann Brandt's Mazikeen Won't Be In The Early Part Of Lucifer Season 3

We've heard that Dr. Linda Martin (Rachel Harris) will be making a new friend in Lucifer Season 3, and that Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt) won't be too happy about that. But how does this budding friendship come about without Maze knowing about it early? That's because she won't be around for the beginning of the season.

Showrunner Ildy Modrovich told EW.com:

"Maze is gone bounty hunting for the first part of the season, i.e. having her child and spending time with her new baby. But when she comes back, she'll find her best friend with this new friend, so she'll be very, very jealous of that because, 'Hey, Linda's her best friend!' so that will be fraught with drama."

We saw how Maze initially took to Lucifer (Tom Ellis) getting close to Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German), which I think was a mix of protectiveness and jealousy. The fact that Maze is jealous of Linda having a new friend should be interesting, but if it turns out to be somebody that might be a threat to Linda, that could turn out to be very very dangerous for this new friend. They've been quiet on exactly who the friend is or what their deal would be — only that it is an "interesting partnership" and "exciting".

Lucifer returns for season 3 on October 2nd on Fox.
