"Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens": Awkwafina's Comedy Central Sets Title, Director
With production currently underway in NYC, Awkwafina's (Crazy Rich Asians, The Farewell) upcoming Comedy Central series now has something going for it that every show on television covets: a title. Set to debut in January 2020, Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens is based loosely on the actor's life and has scored an impressive directorial line-up: Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll), Lucia Aniello (Broad City), Jamie Babbit (But I'm a Cheerleader), The Daniels (Swiss Army Man), Steven Tsuchida (Younger), and Anu Valia (The Other Two).
"I've been watching Comedy Central since I was old enough to hold a remote, and so many of their shows have defined who I am today. I am so honored to be given their platform to tell the story of an Asian-American girl against the backdrop of the city [in which] I was raised."

Awkwafina Is Nora from Queen introduces viewers to Nora Lum (Awkwafina's real name), a young woman growing up in Flushing, raised by her dad (BD Wong) and grandma (Lori Tan Chinn) alongside her cousin (Bowen Yang). Nora leans on her family as she navigates life and young adulthood in outer-borough New York City.
Awkwafina/Lum, Karey Dornetto, Lucia Aniello, Teresa Hsiao, Peter Principato, and Itay Reiss of Artists First are set to executive produce Awkwafina Is Nora from Queen. Comedy Central executives Sarah Babineau and Rachel Olson will oversee production on the series for the network.
