CBS To Reboot The Classic 80's TV Series Magnum P.I.

With the success of Hawaii Five-O and MacGyver, CBS has given a big pilot production commitment to the man behind the two reboots, Peter Lenkov, to take do it again with Magnum P.I. Lenkov and Hawaii Five-O co-showrunner Eric Guggenheim wrote the pilot and have kept the same four main characters, except the role of Higgins originally played by John Hillerman, will not be Juliet Higgins.

Magnum

According to Deadline, the new Magnum P.I. follows Thomas Magnum, a decorated ex-Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. With help from fellow vets Theodore "TC" Calvin and Orville "Rick" Wright, as well as that of disavowed former MI:6 agent Juliet Higgins, Magnum takes on the cases no one else will, helping those who have no one else to turn to. Action, adventure and comedy aside, Magnum P.I. will also explore a brotherhood forged by the trauma of combat, what it means to return home an ex-soldier, and a commitment to continuing to serve while in the private sector.

Tom Selleck, the original Thomas Magnum, is currently on CBS in the long-running police drama Blue Bloods and has given his blessings to the project.

ABC was working on a Magnum 'sequel' last years that would've followed the adventures of Thomas' daughter, Lily 'Tommy" Magnum, who moves to Hawaii to take over her father's P.I. firm. This was a project being spearheaded by John Rodgers (Leverage) and Eva Longoria's UnbeliEVAble Entertainment.

No word on how much of the shows' signature look would remain… like Magnum's Hawaiian shirts, red Ferrari, Detroit Tiger hat or signature mustache. Now if Higgins will still have two Dobermans named Apollo and Zeus.

Marc Guggenheim, executive producer of Arrow and brother of the above mentioned Eric, tweeted last night about the project.
