Dave Bautista Officially Retires from Wrestling After WrestleMania Loss

As expected, Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista has officially retired from pro wrestling after losing his WrestleMania match against Triple H last night. Bautista, now a full-blown movie star, asked for the match in order to end his career on his own terms: by defeating Triple H and ending Triple H's career. Unfortunately for Bautista, that was not to be, as several unbroken announce tables, one plucked nose ring, and a flying sledgehammer to the head later, it was Triple H who emerged victorious from the No Holds Barred match at WrestleMania 35.

But despite failing to accomplish his goal of forcing his longtime mentor and rival to retire, a few hours after the show went off the air, the 50-year-old Bautista took to Twitter to officially announce his own retirement and thank the fans for cheering and booing him over the years.

"Thank you for letting me entertain you," Bautista told the WWE Universe twitter account, though he surely actually meant the tweet to be directed at fans. "I love this business and whether you cheered me or jeered me, I'm grateful for being a small part of your life."

"I am officially retired from sports entertainment," Bautista continued, "and I am grateful for every second of my amazing journey."

That wasn't all for The Animal, however, as just two hours later, he took to Instagram to announce his retirement a second time.

"To all the @wwe fans across the world that gave me the opportunity to suspend your disbelief, thank you," Bautista said this time. "From the biggest part of my heart thank you for letting me entertain you. Tonight was my story book ending and I wanted to leave you with all I had to give."

"I'll miss this theater of violence more than I can express in words but I am officially retiring from Sports Entertainment," he concluded. "I'm proud of what I've accomplished, I leave in great health, and without a doubt the show will go on. I had a hell of a run. Thank you for the journey."

At press time, Bautista had not yet retired on Tumblr, Facebook, Reddit, or Google Plus, but we'll be keeping an eye on those accounts and letting you know when he does. Triple H, on the other hand, was happy that he wasn't forced to retire and had no remorse for ending Bautista's career on a down note.
