Doctor Who New Logo; Goes Disney+ Outside UK/Ireland in Late 2023

Well, it looks like those talks between the BBC and Disney Branded Television from over the summer regarding streaming rights for Doctor Who outside the UK and Ireland went really, really well. Earlier today, the two companies announced that Disney+ will be the exclusive streaming home for the long-running show outside of those two regions beginning in late 2023. Looking at our calendar, that means U.S. viewers can look to Disney+ for Russell T. Davies' upcoming 60th-Anniversary specials starring Doctors David Tennant and Ncuti Gatwa (it's a long story), with Bad Wolf and BBC Studios Production producing.

And here's a look at the video unveiling the new logo:

"It is the best of both worlds," Davies said of the announcement. "The vision and joy of the BBC and Disney+ together we can launch the TARDIS all around the planet, reaching a new generation of fans while keeping our traditional home firmly on the BBC in the UK." BBC Chief Content Officer Charlotte Moore believes Disney is "the perfect partner to bring this very British show to the rest of the world" and that joining with it "will elevate the show to even greater heights and reach new audiences." Disney+ President Alisa Bowen added, "We're excited by the opportunity to bring new seasons of this beloved franchise exclusively to Disney+ and introduce the show to the next generation of audiences." Ayo Davis, President, Disney Branded Television, shared, "Doctor Who has captivated the imaginations of families around the world for the past six decades. We are so excited about this collaboration with the BBC, and the opportunity to bring this iconic franchise – and Russell T. Davies' brilliant vision – to life for a huge new global audience." For Rebecca Glashow, CEO, Global Distribution, BBC Studios, the move is "great news for everyone who loves Doctor Who, and for all the new fans we will reach through this powerful partnership."
